La prima notte di quiete

Mon 5 Jul 2010 - published by Tia - and the main ideea is: films, visual

Today I’ve spent some time watching a couple of films: “La Piscine” and “La prima notte di quiete”. Incidentally, both masterpieces featured Alain Delon.
In “La prima notte di quiete” (directed by Valerio Zurlini, who also directed “Il Deserto dei tartari”) I discovered a forgotten jewel of the cinematographic art, beautifully photographed:

Intro – proffesor Dominici’s favorite place for a solitary walk.

This might sound amusing, coming from Alain Delon. One would rather imagine him playing an engaging role that has to deal with one or the other sides of the law:

Professor Dominici in the classroom:

Il proffesore buys his favourite journals Le Figaro Litteraire and Newsweek:

The deserted city of Rimini:

Il proffesore walks home. “The Sartorialist” would certainly feature him on his site. Delon wears the same clothes all the way through the film, as a kind of trademark:

The deserted wintery beach:

The deserted promenade:

And again the promenade – Il proffesore taking one of his enigmatic walks:

At Monterchi, reflections on Piero della Francesca’s Madonna del Parto:

Desolate beach huts:

Dominici in his old car. His last confused trip:

HERE you can read some very interesting notes of the film in Italian.

This looks like a potentially interesting movie. It’s very intriguing as it is not quite clear what the movie really is about. It makes me want to see Rimini, though!
